DARLA Focus Group

The Focus Group will be consulted to respond to the sketch of DARLA in Beta (herein), to review if the Entity responds sufficiently to the need for a new approach to art collaboration, creation, presentation and co-production.

The Focus group will review questions such as including but not limited to;

As a “curatorial” entity, is it clear that more than one voice is speaking or having access to a platform?

How best can we circumvent the limitations of convening an audience to see new work at galleries, museums, festivals or cinemas and reach users on-line or in public spaces?

If the organizing rationale is to be more fluid and idealistic than existing bureaucratic structures and models, is DARLA realistic, eccentric, or, too specific.

Is the mandate and vision sufficiently new and recognizable in Beta, or, what more is needed, what else can be described?

What will make the Entity successful and sustainable?

What will be the role of the Associates?

What will be the accountability structure?

Who (which artists) will have work like this?

The limitations of current critical theory and criticism is generally understood and does not provide a framework for understanding or evaluating new types of works, therefore;

The Focus Group will strategize around how a new umbrella can absorb and/or incorporate the language of the natural sciences and others into the fine arts and how we can improve on what was tried during the “art and science” trends of the 1990’s. Who can be consulted from the sciences? From cybernetics, math, physics?
